Promptur
A Mac teleprompter that scrolls at the pace you actually speak.
Your script floats in a slim strip just under the camera, so you are looking almost straight down the lens while you read. As you talk, on-device speech recognition works out which words you have reached and moves the text to match. Pause, and it waits. Skip a paragraph, and it finds you again.
Everything runs on your Mac. No account, no subscription, no analytics.

These work while you are in any other app, so you can start the prompter from inside Zoom or Keynote without switching windows.
Common questions
It is not following my voice
Check the mode word in the strip. "Following" means speech recognition is running and matching your words. If it says something else, Promptur has dropped to a simpler mode because the recogniser or the microphone was unavailable, and it will tell you which. The most common cause is that microphone access was declined. Open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Microphone, and switch Promptur on.
The first Start took a long time
The first time you press Start, macOS may download Apple's on-device speech model. That is a one-off, it needs a connection, and afterwards Promptur runs offline. It is the only moment in the app's life that touches the network.
Where are my scripts kept?
They are plain text and Markdown files, and they live in the app's own Documents folder at ~/Library/Containers/com.jordanbee.promptur/Data/Documents/Promptur. To use a script kept anywhere else, open it with the Open command and the app keeps access to that file, including next time you launch.
Can people on my call see the script?
There is a setting that asks macOS to leave the prompter out of screen recordings and shared screens. It is a request to the window server rather than a guarantee, and it has been reported to behave differently across macOS versions, so record a short test before you rely on it for anything that matters.
What does it require?
macOS 26 or later. The voice following is built on the on-device speech recognition introduced in that release, so earlier versions cannot run it.
